The Courtyard Farm is located on 31 rolling acres, cocooned in the heart of Bedford Hills, NY. This beautifully restored facility is truly unique and virtually irreplaceable given the stone masonry craftsmanship. It offers a sense of privacy from the rest of the world whilst having easy access to all major highways, the metro north train station is only one mile from the farm and Manhattan is an hour drive away. Courtyard is also centrally located to all of the largest east coast horse shows.
Originally built in 1904 as The Honorable Seth Lowe’s country estate- the barns were for horses; a third building was housing for farm workers. The barn complex was sadly destroyed by a fire in 1970.
Left as stone ruins for 30 years, Kristen Carollo purchased the parcel in 2001 with the intent of resurrecting the barns to their original form and opening a state-of the art hunter/jumper show stable. With hard work, determination and a vision of her dreams; Kristen created The Courtyard Farm. The project boasts a 50 box stall stable with a large tack room, 4 wash stalls, 2 hay lofts, 12 paddocks, storage lofts, a sprinkler system and a bathroom/laundry room. There is an 80×180 indoor riding arena with an attached lounge, and a 180×230 outdoor riding ring, both equipped with Travel rite footing. Also a grass ring lies in the front of the property where many will be found riding in the warmer months.
Bedford, being a horse community, has a 200 mile trail system that is well known throughout the country called the BRLA (Bedford Riding Lanes Association). The BRLA runs right through Courtyard Farm giving people easy access to the trail system. Kristen has also protected most of the property with a conservation easement through the Westchester Land Trust to ensure the history of this gorgeous farm lives on.
The Courtyard Farm has not only enhanced the community and provided a more sophisticated riding facility, but has also improved a significant Bedford landmark. WAG magazine describes Courtyard as “Warm, inviting, youthful and bustling: But is also a serious business with top-notch facilities”.
